Farmers’ market launched

Well over 1,000 people visited and shopped at the Newry Farmers’ Market at John Mitchel Place last Friday.

Whether regular or new customers or simply curious observers, visitors checked out the 22 well stocked stalls from early morning, when everyone was setting up, until the last stallholder had departed.

The stallholders were delighted with the day’s takings and the huge interest in the quality seasonal local produce and artisan foods and have all signed up to set up on a regular basis.

Brand new to the Farmers’ Market scene were Kelly and Kevin Martin of Windyhill Eggs from Newtownards with last Friday being their very first market.

They will have a regular stall at the weekly Farmers’ Market in Newry and Dundalk, having taken quite a few duck egg orders for this week.

Additional stallholders are already signing up for the next bumper monthly Farmer’s Market on Friday 27October.  New craft stallholders are also very welcome, particularly in the run-up to Christmas.

The regular Farmers’ market continues each week with the bumper Farmers’ Market on the last Friday of the month.  The Dundalk Farmers’ Market takes place at the County Museum, Jocelyn Street, Dundalk, from 10 am – 2pm every Saturday.
